Yorktown Trails - Yorktown, NY

  • The Town of Yorktown received a grant from the Greenway Conservancy to fund a study which analyzed the feasibility of implementing a trailway that connects the Town of Yorktown to the Hudson River.
The process of studying a trail corridor connection began with extensive base data collection.  GIS technology was used to map existing natural features (wetlands, steep slopes), document land use, and to identify parcel ownership.  A suitability analysis was developed to identify the opportunities and constraints of possible trail corridor connections.  Field reconnaissance was performed and photo-documented by the project team to supplement the GIS mapping.  Meetings were held with key municipal stakeholders to ensure the potential trail connections studied were consistent with the overall open space and recreational opportunities identified by each group.  Several alternatives were evaluated for their feasibility.  Two clear distinct corridors evolved, with both offering contiguous connections to various open space parcels, parkland, neighborhoods and existing trail systems.
