Taxter Road Nature Preserve - Town of Greenburgh, NY

  • Naturally preserved open space is a rare commodity in Southern Westchester County, New York. The Town of Greenburgh has recognized the need and value of maintaining this remaining land for the benefit of the public and worked with IQ to develop one such parcel as a nature preserve.

The office has designed a site sensitive, low profile parking lot to accommodate the visitor upon arrival. Interpretive signage and a rustic design vocabulary of benches, portals and meandering mulched paths lead pedestrians into the site exploring an existing pond and hardwood forests. New understory trees and native and wetland plantings enhance the existing vegetation and rock outcroppings.

A nature trail dedicated to a local Native American Tribe completes a loop within the property. An extensive screening program is being implemented to buffer adjacent leaf mulching operations which coexist with the nature preserve.
