Flint Park - Larchmont, NY

  • IQ Landscape Architects developed a plan to restore an area adjacent to a tidal marsh at Flint Park in the Village of Larchmont to a nature preserve.  The parcel is currently used by the Village for stock piling construction debris and leaf compost.  The plan for the Conservation Area will be integrated with new ball fields.  The new plans prepared by IQ called for the creation of gentle undulating berms planted with a meadow of switch grass, red cedar, and white oaks.

A contiguous nature trail consisting of on-site recycled concrete allows access and viewing out toward the marshland.  Overlooks for bird watching will be incorporated as well as an on-grade boardwalk through a field of common reed grass.  Rustic bird feeders, nesting platforms, and berry-bearing native shrubs serve to create a habitat for wildlife.  Interpretive signs throughout the Conservation Zone explain various elements of the restoration project including the use of recyclable materials, and the ecology of the marshland.
