Croton Point Park - Croton on Hudson, NY

  • IQ was selected by Westchester County to be the master planners and designers for the first phase of redevelopment of a 500 acre peninsula park located on the Hudson River.  The park’s unique historical mosaic includes a previous Indian burial ground, the location of the Country’s first commercial winery, an estate, working brickyard, and a summer bungalow community.

IQ  lead the  project  team  which  included the architectural  firm  of  Beyer Blinder Belle, an archeologist, and a civil engineer.  Historical research has generated a design   vocabulary   reflecting   the local vernacular and rich heritage of the park.  New site signage, picnic groves, a 500 car parking lot, new park pavilions, and steps to prehistoric shell middens were included in the design and documentation.

Stabilization of the existing underground wine cellars were the first phase of the reestablishment of the once acclaimed vineyard.  Expansion and infrastructure upgrading for RV sites provided improvements necessary to accommodate the regional and national draw to the park the County is anticipating.
