IQ Landscape Architects provided landscape architectural and urban design services for a new pedestrian transit mall located in the heart of one of the largest urban redevelopment projects in the New York area. The original conceptual plan for the Brownfield site was developed by the New Urbanist firm of Duany Plater-Zyberk. The 86 Acre mixed-use development will have more than 6,000 units of housing 4.5 million square feet of office and over 1 million square feet of high-end retail. Phase one will include the design of a 500 feet long pedestrian plaza which will serve as a focal point for the neighborhood and a gateway for one of the new light rail stops to the PATH Train. Some of the placemaking elements to be introduces include a fountain basin, an events plaza, and retail kiosks. Streetscape guidelines for lighting, trees, and pavements will also be developed by IQ.
