IQ prepared conceptual plans for a new waterfront park located at Co-op City in the Bronx, the largest housing cooperative in the world. With over 50,000 people living there, the development consists of 35 high rise buildings and multiple schools, retail businesses, and recreational centers. Formerly a marshland, the buildings and facilities are built on landfill.
Although the towers are surrounded by ample lush green spaces the community has no interface with its waterfront -The Hutchinson River. IQ worked with Riverbay Corporation, the property manager and stakeholders on the Co-op Board to develop a vision plan restoring an underutilized 4 acre park as an urban riverfront park. In addition to addressing the recreational needs of the community, the plan promotes sustainability and waterfront resiliency . Native landscape features will help treat storm water, restore habitat, and provide environmental benefit to the surrounding marshland ecosystem.
