Shrub Oak Memorial - Yorktown, NY

  • The town of Yorktown is comprised of five major hamlets, each with its own unique history and character. IQ has been retained by the Town to develop streetscape and signage guidelines for several of these village centers.

Shrub Oak, located in the northern section of the Town, is one of the more historic hamlets. A plan was developed by IQ to establish its business district as a safe and pleasant pedestrian oriented town center.

Some of the streetscape elements proposed include an information kiosk which recalls the turn of the century architecture of the library green, surrounded by a Shakespeare garden. Decorative streetlights, benches, and traditional bus shelters will reinforce the historic core as an important link to Yorktown’s development.

The site is located adjacent to a 1.5 acre Village park and a newly opened and popular restaurant. A streetscape plan will also be developed Commerce Street, a busy commercial corridor in Yorktown Heights.
