Patriot Garden - Yorktown, NY

  • The Town of Yorktown was once the center of a flourishing agricultural industry serviced by Westchester County’s Putnam Railroad Line. The abandoned rail beds now serve as a well used bike trail in the northern section of the County. A giant turntable constructed in the early 1900’s, that used to turn train cars at a rail yard, was uncovered by the Town and remains in good condition.

IQ designed a demonstration garden inside the well preserved concrete walls consisting of gravel paths and native plants. A path guides pedestrians and bicyclists to the garden and overlooking slopes. The surrounding landscape was proposed to consist of native meadows, trees, and a storm water quality basin promoting sustainability and biodiversity.
