Canopus Lake - Putnam County, NY

  • Canopus Lake, located in Clarence Fahnestock State Park, has been called the “jewel of the park” and is used for swimming, boating and fishing. The Appalachians Trail parallels the west side of the lake.
IQ Landscape Architects worked with the Alliance for New York State Parks / Open Space Institute to create a new parks facility which welcomes visitors and houses the cross country ski center in the winter and water related activities during the summer months.  An outdoor plaza was created to accommodate dining and gatherings.  A large fire pit acts as a seasonal focal point.  Sustainable design strategies were incorporated into the facility including the use of native plants and local masonry materials, as well as various interpretive features.
